The release of the Game Boy Micro and the ceramic white colored PSP have had a huge effect on the Japanese sales charts, with a 310 percent increase on last week’s figures. The data from Media Create provides seven-day totals for the initial data gathered yesterday by website Dengeki Online, and show some impressive initial totals. Media Create put total Game Boy Micro sales at 170,306, with the Famicom-styled version of the console being particularly successful, selling out as much as 84% of its initial stock. Sony’s counter to the release of the Game Boy Micro was a new white colored PSP and the debut of World Soccer Winning Eleven 9 alongside the UMD movie Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. Despite this, hardware sales for the console were very marginally still behind the Nintendo DS, with 70,152 unit sales for PSP versus 72,167 for DS. In software, and despite the Game Boy Micro launch, Nintendo has been pipped to the number one software spot by Koei’s latest Shin Sangoku Musou title (to be known as Dynasty Warriors 5: Xtreme Legends in the West) which sold 203,107 units. It just beat out Nintendo's Super Mario Bros. for GBA, which recorded 187,386 sales – this in spite of the fact that the game has already been re-released once already this year on the Game Boy Advance. Winning Eleven 9’s sales were impressive at 106,882 units sold, but they were still easily beaten by Bandai’s new Nintendo DS Tamagotchi title with 150,072 unit sales. Capcom’s Gyakuten Saiban: Yomigaeru Gyakuten (to be known as Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney in the West) also performed well with 64,570 sales. This good result, combined with the evergreen Brain Training titles, has seen the Nintendo DS weather its most important test of popularity since the initial release of the PSP. Media Create estimate that 31,000 copies of the UMD version of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children were sold, which would have put it at number ten in the software chart. This compares to 305,000 units of the first print DVD edition, 65,000 of the Advent Pieces limited-edition DVD set and 20,000 of the regular print DVD edition. In terms of market share, the Game Boy Micro accounted for a 48.55 percentage, followed by the Nintendo DS at 20.57 percent, the PSP at 20.00 percent, the PlayStation 2 at 6.95 percent, the Game Boy Advance at 3.36 percent, the GameCube at 0.54 percent and the Xbox at 0.03 percent.
