For the first time in almost two months, the number one title in Japan has reached the normally hoped for minimum of over 100,000 sales. Square Enix’s Drag-On Dragoon 2 (aka Drakengard II) sold 125,131 units, slightly more than its predecessor’s first week figure of around 122,000 units. The original went on to sell around 254,000 units in its lifetime, with the sequel now having a good chance of equaling or exceeding this figure. Sales for other games declined somewhat swiftly, though, with the tenth ranked title selling just 6,988 units. As a result sales were down 5 percent on last week, and are 58 percent of the weekly average. Although sales of other titles were somewhat depressed, Nintendo will still be celebrating the success of DS Rakubiki Jiten at number seven. The title is not a game at all, but an interactive dictionary and represents yet another success by the company in attracting non-gamers to the Nintendo DS format. By comparison, PSP software sales continue to lag behind, with the highest ranked game being launch title Minna no Golf Portable (aka Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee and Everybody's Golf) at number twenty-two. In hardware sales, the Nintendo DS lead the pack for the ninth consecutive week, with a market share of 34.92 percent and 31,376 units sold. The PlayStation 2 was next with 25,526 sales and a 28.41 percent market share, followed by the PSP with 20,416 sales and a 22.72 percent share. Next was the Game Boy Advance with a 11.36 percent share, then the GameCube at 2.43 percent and the Xbox at 0.17 percent.
