Opinion: How will Project 2025 impact game developers?
The Heritage Foundation's manifesto for the possible next administration could do great harm to many, including large portions of the game development community.
After four weeks at the number one spot, Nintendo's New Super Mario Bros. for DS has finally been supplanted at the top of the Japanese sales charts for the week ending June 25th by Square's PS2 action RPG Valkyrie Profile 2.
After four weeks at the number one spot, Nintendo's New Super Mario Bros. for DS has finally been supplanted at the top of the Japanese sales charts for the week ending June 25th, albeit only as far as number two, and with a still extremely impressive 170,168 units sales. The new number one is Square Enix's action role-playing game sequel Valkyrie Profile 2 for PS2, which registered 281,510 unit sales on its debut, following a successful re-release of the original game on the PSP. The second highest new entry of the week is SNK Playmore’s The King of Fighters XI at 28,015 units, proving that in Japan at least, 2D beat ‘em-ups can still find a sufficient audience. The final new entry of the week in the top ten is yet another new brain training game for the PSP at number nine, this one endorsed by the Sony Computer Science research institute, but still published by Sega. The 23,548 unit sales debut, though, suggests that the game will not see the same level of success as Nintendo’s Touch Generations games. Hardware sales saw the Nintendo DS at 167,154 (including 10,132 units for the original hardware). Unusually, the PlayStation 2 sold more than the PSP, at 25,467 units versus 24,737. The Game Boy Advance family of consoles was next with 5,311 units sold, while embarrassingly for Microsoft, the Xbox 360 again fell behind sales of the GameCube at 1,169 units to 1,197.
