Today at the GDC, Intrinsic Graphics announced the availability of Alchemy 3, the latest version of the company's game development platform. Version 3 includes the new Alchemy Ether Shader architecture, with support for DirectX 9, HLSL, and Cg and OpenGL. Ether Shaders are a framework for building custom shading effects in Alchemy. The Ether Shader framework includes an extensible, text-based shader description language that fully integrates with Alchemy's Maya and 3ds max exporters to provide a toolchain solution for shader development. Also new in Intrinsic Alchemy 3.0 are morph target animation acceleration, improved asynchronous I/O and streaming audio support, and fully integrated Lua scripting. Pricing information was not announced.
