Insomniac Games, developers behind Resistance: Fall of Man and the Ratchet & Clank franchise, have once again been honored by The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) as one of "the 50 Best Small and Medium Sized Companies to Work For in America" at its 59th Annual Conference and Exposition today in Las Vegas. This is the third time in a row that Insomniac Games has received the distinction by the awards, which are presented to companies with between 50 and 999 employees. The judging was primarily based on a randomly-distributed employee opinion survey that measured several categories including workplace environment, management’s responsiveness to employee feedback, and adherence to company philosophy. SHRM officials note that Insomniac is the only company in the history of the small business category to earn a Top 10 ranking for three straight years, and the studio remains the first and only game developer to be included on the list. Despite an increase in applicants by more than 20 percent over last year, and a full 50 percent increase since the awards ceremony debuted in 2005, Insomniac managed to distinguish itself from most of its peers by ranking 8th in the award's small companies category. The developer was also Southern California's lone representative on the small business list, and the only company in the 'TV, Film and Video' category to be recognized this year. "Last year was among the most challenging in Insomniac's history as we prepared to release Resistance: Fall of Man worldwide with the launch of PlayStation 3," said Insomniac's founder and CEO Ted Price, who added that “it's especially gratifying to demonstrate again that it's possible in the games industry to achieve excellent results while maintaining a collaborative and stimulating workplace culture."
