Rendering and lighting tech maker Illuminate Labs has released the fifth edition of Turtle, its lighting tool for Autodesk Maya. Turtle 5 also sees a redesign of its global illumination algorithms, a streamlined user interface, and a unified workflow for surface transfers and texture/vertex baking. Illuminate Labs says that the new algorithms, plus a new adaptive anti-aliasing scheme, are part of overall performance optimization, with faster previewing and higher image quality. "We are very happy to see the result of Turtle lighting in titles like Gran Turismo, Mass Effect, Killzone 2 and Tomb Raider Underworld," says Illuminate Labs CEO Magnus Wennerholm. "Turtle 5 raises the bar even further, setting a new standard for pre-computed lighting."
