WarBirds developer iEntertainment Network has announced that they have received an extension on their 'serious games'-related project commissioned as the U.S. Air Force Enhanced Technical Order project from SEI, St. Louis, a major defense contractor, for the Air Force Material Command. The contract was to improve the ability of U.S. Air Force maintenance personnel to accomplish maintenance tasks in field and remote locations, using video game-based training, as well as computer and communication-based learning, and originally began in June 2005. The contract extension includes a major presentation to the Air Force at Wright Patterson AFB in November. iEntertainment itself continues to offer its 'Total Simulation' series of massively multiplayer flight and wargames to video game players, including WarBirds 2005 and Armored Assault. The company was founded by JW 'Wild Bill' Stealey, the co-founder of Microprose in 1982 alongside Sid Meier, and a graduate of the United States Air Force Academy in Aeronautical Engineering, and whose company bio notes that he pilots his own T-28 Trojan Warbird in his leisure time.
