The Gnomon School of Visual Effects and The-Area.com, a community web site owned by Autodesk, are hosting their annual 3D graphics celebration, titled 3December -- though the event actually takes place Thursday, Dec. 6 in Hollywood, Calif. This year’s party will recognize the cloth and hair team who worked on the newly released feature film Beowulf from Sony Pictures Imageworks. The evenings special guests will be Sho Igarashi, cloth and hair supervisor, and Mark de Sousa, CG supervisor, both of Sony Pictures Imageworks, who will speak about costume and hair acquisition on set, procedural costume builds, hair builds, and dynamics/rigs in addition to the character connect from animation to cloth and hair, and plenty of other work that brought the film to life. The event will take place Thursday, Dec. 6, from 6 to 9 p.m., with presentations beginning at 7 p.m., at the Gnomon School of Visual Effects, Stage 15, 1015 N. Cahuenga Blvd. in Hollywood. Beginning next week, The-Area.com will also be presenting content on its web site in conjunction with the celebration of 3D Graphic Arts for those who are not able to attend in person, including tips and tricks for 3D artists, demos, and tutorials.
