Genemation has launched its first product, Genhead V1.0.2, a face-synthesis middleware package that creates 3D heads of real people from photographs and also synthesizes faces from scratch for use as extras in games. The Genhead middleware allows the morphing of the real or generated faces to create expressions, ageing, or even gender changes—making it easy to create a virtual family from only one or two starting faces. Currently, the software can be downloaded for a free evaluation, and though Genemation has not yet announced pricing, the company “plans to adopt a simple licensing model that matches the needs of individual developers.”
