Today's very Friday round-up includes sad news on Unity, some more Odd goings-on, and a marvelous-looking superhero-related Bible game from N'Lightning Software and friends. - After three years of work, cult Welsh coder Jeff Minter has regretfully announced that Unity, his GameCube 3D shooter project being developed in conjunction with Lionhead Studios, has been cancelled. Though publishers were interested in the project, both parties had come to the agreement that it wouldn't be possible to finish Unity on a schedule that would make publishing it worthwhile. Our sympathies to the experimental, beleaguered developer and best wishes that his next project brings him back to sheepish prominence. - Lorne Lanning has revealed Oddworld Inhabitants' next project after Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath: in what could be the biggest-budget protest game ever. Called Citizen Siege, the game is apparently borne of Lanning's frustration with the American political atmosphere: "It's about martial law and the diminishment of civil liberties," says the Oddworld Inhabitants president in an interview with UK consumer game site C&VG. No specific platform has yet been announced for the title. - Covenant Studios and Pamplin Entertainment have joined forces to create a Bibleman Adventures video game, based on the animated franchise developed by Pamplin. Covenant will work with N'Lightning Software Development, a veteran creator of religious-themed games, to produce games starring Bibbleman, Biblegirl, and other Biblepeople. The first game, The Fight for Faith, will be released in fall 2005, and feature clips from the existing animated video series.
