Major consumer video game site GameSpot has announced that it has launched GameSpot UK, a site that is overseen by a dedicated, London-based editorial team which will focus on coverage of the UK and European gaming markets. GameSpot is already viewed by more than 1.3 million UK gamers monthly, and the staff will be ramping up over the coming weeks to add content to the new site that is geared towards the European audience - European visitors to GameSpot will be automatically redirected to GameSpot UK. The new website, which will compete with major UK consumer sites such as Eurogamer.net and Future's newly relaunched GamesRadar, has also partnered with Play.com and SwapGame.com to provide UK readers with a way to rent or buy games locally, as well as participate in contests and other promotions geared towards the European market. "The UK market is an exciting opportunity for the expansion of GameSpot," commented Vince Broady, co-founder of GameSpot in relation to the announcement. "In addition to the huge population of UK gamers we can better serve with our UK website, European publishers and developers are growing the global gaming market with many interesting and innovative games. Better coverage of these developments across the board is critical to our GameSpot audience, and essential to the global gaming community at large."
