Officials from major UK-based specialty video game retailer GAME have announced visitors to the retailer's website will soon have access to a new high speed download service for PC games thanks to a new partnership with Game Domain International (GDI). GDI boasts that its 'games on demand' technology "allows gamers to download PC games directly to their PCs within minutes rather than hours." In return, the agreement will also see GAME provide retail and marketing services to GDI's new gaming community virtual world known as A World of My Own (AWOMO). First announced in February, the service is expected to “replicate the functionality of iTunes” and offer downloadable PC games on demand through a 3D community based interface. GDI, part of Virgin Games, has said its AWOMO community and technology have the additional benefits of greater security and improved customer ease of use compared to other digital download services. "As a specialist multi channel retailer, we are committed to exploring new ways to deliver products to customers using all methods possible,” commented GAME managing director Alex Croft. “We are very interested in the technology and services that GDI has developed, and believe that it could bring real benefits to our customers." "The GDI partnership is an exciting way of developing our offer and helping to define this space at a time when digital PC download is still in its early stages," added Croft.
