Intending to capitalise on the growing game development industry in Australia and world-wide, representatives have announced the formation of Game Audio Australia, a new studio offering game audio services including music, sound design and implementation, dialogue, localisation, mixing and mastering. Game Audio Australia was founded by Mick Gordon of Lava Injection Studios, whose career has seen him providing audio on such titles as Singstar: Rocks!, Buzz: The Big Quiz, and SOCOM3: US Navy Seals, and Andrew Curnock of Beat Therapy, currently working on forthcoming GameBoy Advance titles Avatar - The Legend of Aang and Nicktoons 2006 - Battle For Volcano Island. The studio will provide audio services not only for next generation consoles, with work currently underway on several unannounced titles including an upcoming RPG for PC and Xbox360 and a first-person shooter for the PS3 and Xbox360, but will also be creating a dedicated handheld audio division focusing on Nintendo DS, PSP, Gameboy Advance and mobile phones. “Game audio is extremely important to the success of the game and it is taken much more seriously these days. 20 years ago, you would have had one guy doing all the art, the programming, the design and the sound! Now we have up to 100 people working on a single title that takes two years to make and sells several million copies”, said director of Game Audio Australia, Mick Gordon, adding “I’m really excited about working with game developers from America and Europe who are keen to take advantage of the exchange rate, our handheld audio division and the wonderful collection of talented musicians and sound designers that we have here in Australia.”
