Today's Gamasutra feature is an updated reprint of Game Developer magazine's November 2009 article The Game Developer 50, a list of the most influential thinkers and doers in the worlds of art, design, programming, business, and evangelism. The article presents profiles of important developers and others in the industry from indies to the presidents of multinational companies -- whoever has had a profound effect on the progression of the game industry over the course of last year. The list, which is compiled by the editors of Game Developer magazine with input from Gamasutra and the Game Developer advisory board, includes notables such as Nintendo president Satoru Iwata, Penny Arcade creators Mike Krahulik and Jerry Holkins, and indie developer Adam Saltsman, among many others. As its introduction notes: "We spend a lot of time focusing on companies in this industry, and sometimes not enough on the individuals. While it can often be difficult to attribute the achievements of a game to one to one particular person, we have attempted just that -- mentioning leads where necessary, and independent accomplishments whenever possible. If possible, where leads are mentioned, teams should interpret this as a group honor. And so, this is our list, compiled by the editors and our advisory board... Within each category, there is no ranking -- names are ordered alphabetically. Thanks to all the below for doing what you do, and keep striving for future excellence!" The full feature, The Game Developer 50, is now live on Gamasutra.
