The 2005 nominees for the 3rd annual G-Phoria Awards, the video game awards of the G4 cable network, have now been announced. This year’s Game of the Year nominees include Sony Computer Entertainment America’s PS2 action title God of War, Rockstar Games’ epic crime simulator Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, Valve/VU Games’ long-anticipated first-person shooter Half-Life 2, Bungie/Microsoft’s Xbox shooter Halo 2, Capcom’s GameCube-debuting zombie chomp Resident Evil 4, and Blizzard’s extremely popular MMORPG World of WarCraft. God of War garnered the most nominations, with nods in Best Cinematic, Best Graphics, Best Action Game, Best Original Game, Best Original Soundtrack, Best Sound Design, Best Female Voice Performance for Linda Hunt, Best Boss for the Hydra monster, Favorite Character for Kratos, EB Gamer’s Choice, and Game of the Year. Other multiple nominees for the awards included The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay, Def Jam Fight for NY, Doom 3, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, Half-Life 2, Halo 2, Katamari Damacy, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, Oddworld Stranger’s Wrath, Resident Evil 4, Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Chaos Theory, and World of WarCraft. Chosen by a panel of video game industry experts, the nominees will be voted on by gamers online starting June 15th and by text message starting July 12th, with the awards show scheduled for the evening of August 9th.
