Smart CEO Magazine has named Firaxis Games founder, president and CEO Jeffery Briggs as the "CEO of the Year". According to Smart CEO Editor-in-Chief David Callahan, “Firaxis is a company that sits squarely within the center of influence in the fastest growing sector of the U.S. entertainment industry. Much of the credit goes to Jeff Briggs, who has built the company around a way of life, instead of simply building their lives around the company.” In 2003 Briggs was also nominated as Ernst and Young’s Software Entrepreneur of the Year. Ironically, the studio has been rather quiet for some months now, with only a mission disk for Sid Meier’s Civilization III released this year. The studio's last full-price game was Sid Meier’s Golf, which came out in 2002. The company is currently working on Sid Meier’s Pirates!, which is scheduled for release this year.
