Epic role-playing game Final Fantasy XII for PlayStation 2 has entered straight in at number one in the UK game sales charts, at the same time becoming the fastest selling game in the series so far in the country. The game accounted for over 53 percent of all full price PlayStation 2 sales during the week and also became the fifth new number one of the year so far – the highest number since 1999. The second highest new entry of the week was Real-Time Worlds’ Crackdown at number two, which became the fourth fastest selling Xbox 360 ever in the UK, behind Gears of War, Pro Evolution Soccer 6 and Call of Duty 3. Also in the top ten, ”super budget” PC release Bad Boys II was the second highest climber of the week - likely boosted not only by the sub-£10 ($19) price point, but also continual references to the film in recent cinema release Hot Fuzz. Other new super budget releases from GDL, which make regular appearances in the UK charts at this time of the year, included Sheep at number seventeen, Warrior Kings: Battles at number twenty-seven, Ford Racing 2 at number thirty-four and Warrior Kings: Remastered at number forty. Similarly priced budget compilation 50 Games Blue from Extra Level Media also made a strong entry at number thirty. The highest climber of the week was the Wii’s Excite Truck which entered only at number thirty-six last week but jumped fifteen places to number twenty-one as a result of more stock of Wii hardware. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess was similarly helped, rising eight places to number twenty-six. The only other full price new entry in the top forty was Mario Slam Basketball (aka Mario Hoops 3 on 3) at number thirty-six.
