Officials from South Korean online publisher and developer Gravity have announced that the company has formed a new San Mateo, California game development studio called L5 Games, staffed by a number of ex-Blizzard North employees. The studio is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Gravity Interactive, whose principal product is online title Ragnarok Online, which is extremely popular in Asian markets such as Japan, Taiwan and Thailand. Over half of the employees at L5 Games are said to have more than ten years of experience in game development, including franchises such as World of WarCraft, Diablo, StarCraft and WarCraft. No hint has yet been given on exactly what style of game the studio will produce first. “We are happy to announce that former employees of Blizzard North have joined L5 Games as members of the Gravity family,” commented Il-Young Ryu, chairman and CEO of Gravity. “We intend to develop online games targeting the North American market, one of the fastest growing online gaming markets, with the outstanding developers of L5 Games who have a successful track record and thorough understanding of the culture of the North American market,” added Ryu.
