Comic book publisher DC Games and developer Epic Games have announced a partnership to produce a comic book series based on the Gears of War franchise under DC's WildStorm imprint. The comic book's leading arc will continue where the first game left off with humankind's struggle for survival against the Locust Horde, providing insight on the events leading to the upcoming sequel while expanding the third-person shooter's universe. DC and Epic have yet to reveal the creative team behind the comic book or when it is scheduled to debut, but it is assumed that the series will begin to ship before Gears of War 2's Xbox 360-exclusive release this November. The original game has sold over 4.5 million copies since its release in November 2006. “We are thrilled to be working with DC Comics to further bring to life the Gears of War universe. A lot of our developers are huge comic fans, and have loved the personas and chronicles unique to DC Comics since childhood,” said Epic Games president Dr. Michael Capps. “The Gears of War storyline and characters that millions of gamers have come to cherish will be a perfect fit under the WildStorm imprint.”
