Cybergames Arena Opens Student Game Development Competition

Cybergames Arena, a game development competition for college and university students connected to the Cybergames Arena Conference, has announced that it is accepting its first phase of submissions - game proposals - until June 30, 2007.

Cybergames Arena, a game development competition for college and university students connected to the Cybergames Arena Conference, is accepting the first phase of submissions—-game proposals—-until June 30, 2007. Proposals are expected to be no more than one page, and must list all team members. Each student team must have at least two members and can have up to five members. Faculty can provide guidance or lead the team. Darren Dancey, Chair, Cybergames Arena, explains: “The proposal should clearly state the premise of your game, describe the 3D world you plan to build for it, outline the gameplay, and list the advanced techniques in your game. Finally, you must include at least one image in your proposal - a sample screenshot of the game in action. This image can be a scanned pencil sketch will do, or something you do in Photoshop, Illustrator, KidPix, or your favorite computer art program. The purpose of this requirement is to help us understand your proposal, and to help you think about how hard or easy it might be to implement what you propose.” The complete video game is due August 31, 2007. All submissions will be handled electronically. The twelve top games will be selected for presentation at Cybergames Arena Conference September 11-12.
