Curious Labs Announces Avatar Lab for the Creation of 3D Avatars for Adobe Atmosphere The publishers of Poser and Poser Pro Pack, Avatar Lab allows for the creation, editing, animation and publishing of character-based 3D Avatars for Adobe Atmosphere. Driven by technology from Poser, their highly successful character animation and figure design tool, Avatar Lab allows users to generate richly detailed, yet modest polygon count Avatars in a few simple steps. The modular approach to the content included with Avatar Lab allows users to mix and match parts to create smooth-skinned, single-mesh 3D characters. Selecting pieces from libraries of pre-built body components, totally unique figures (over 200 million combinations) can be produced in minutes. Textures may be modified, props incorporated and even animations applied with great ease. When publishing Avatars to an end user’s website, all needed components are automatically generated and uploaded via FTP, including JavaScript, .mts and .mtx Viewpoint components and an .aer Atmosphere file. Once uploaded and published, the Avatar can be easily distributed across the Web for browsing in any of the thousands of Atmosphere 3D worlds. In cooperation with EGISYS AG researchers and programmers in Germany, Curious Labs has developed Avatar Lab’s Face Room, which allows an end user to import facial photographs and use them to modify the geometry, and create completely personalized 3D heads. The base geometry is matched to a front and side photograph and the imported images are blended together automatically to create a singular texture map. A real-time 3D preview and texture map window shows the user the results as they manipulate editable control points. Avatar Lab 1.0 for Windows will be available direct from the Curious Labs webstore for $99. An introductory price of $69 will be offered for a limited time to those who purchase Avatar Lab before January 1st, 2002.
