Vicious Cycle Software Inc. has announced it is making its Vicious Engine (game engine) available to students at Wake Technical Community College in Raleigh, NC. The news comes at a time when community colleges have only just begun to offer game development education, though interest in offering such programs has increased dramatically in the last few months among two-year colleges. The engine will be available to students at the two-year, North Carolina-based college who are participating in the game development program. "Because Wake Tech is ‘college for the real world,’ bringing actual game development tools to our students is a priority for our curriculum," said Walter Rotenberry, lead instructor for Wake Tech's simulation and game development program. "Vicious Cycle has created an accessible and powerful game engine that professionals in the industry use, and it will be a significant learning tool for our students." "We know from our own endeavors that hands-on experience is one of the most effective teachers out there," said Eric Peterson, president and CEO of Vicious Cycle Software, Inc. "Thanks to the availability of middleware tools like Vicious Engine, game development teachers can begin to fully realize their programs and their students can improve their portfolios in preparation for future jobs." Wake Tech also offers a host of continuing education courses, and is the second largest community college in the state. The college provides customized workforce training for new and expanding industries, and in an area in North Caronlina known as the Research Triangle (the area between Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill), public and private funding has been pushing game development heavily. Vicious Cycle Software is based in Morrisville, NC.
