According to a notice posted on its website the launch of the PlayStation 2 in China has been delayed at the last moment. The notice indicates that, “there's been a change to the original Dec. 20, 2003 plan due to an unfavorable environment which doesn't permit us to start selling the PlayStation 2 according to schedule." Sony officials have so far failed to comment on the situation, making it entirely unclear what the actual problem has been. At the same time Nintendo officials have claimed that they are “pleased” with the launch of the iQue console (based on Nintendo 64 technology) in China and will make it available through several new retail chains and cities later this month.
