The dates and location of the 2006 Consumer Electronics Show have been announced: the event will take place as usual in Las Vegas, Nevada, from January 5th-8th. The venue for the 2006 show will be the larger Sands Expo and Convention Center, to allow for more space and exhibitors. Though the CES is one of the largest trade shows for consumer electronics, it has comparatively little importance in the video game world. Most game developers and publishers split away to form their own trade show, the Electronic Entertainment Expo, in 1995, and the only major videogame-related news to come out of the CES in the last several years was Microsoft's announcement of the first Xbox console platform. "The Sands is gearing up to be one of the hottest destinations at the 2006 International CES," said Karen Chupka, VP of events and conferences at the Consumer Electronics Association. "With Innovations Plus as an anchor and a focus on hip, new technologies, the Sands will be the place to see the leading-edge of consumer technologies." Registration for the 2006 CES will begin in the summer, at the official CES website.
