Speaking in Japanese newspaper Nikkei Shinbun, Capcom officials have reiterated plans for the company to work more closely with film production companies, both for the creation of movies and movie licensed games. Following on from the commercial (but not necessarily critical) success of the Resident Evil movies, the company already has plans for an animated film based on the Mega Man Battle Network series. This is in addition to live action versions of Onimusha and Devil May Cry. The company also plans to create more games based on existing film licenses, citing the recent Japanese release of the Tim Burton movie-to-game adaptation The Nightmare Before Christmas as an example. No indication was given of what other movies the company might be looking at, but games that expand upon existing movie worlds, rather than act as direct translations of an existing plot were claimed to be preferable. Capcom is the third Japanese publisher/developer to proclaim an interest in working more closely with the movie industry in the last few weeks. Koei recently announced plans to co-fund production of a movie based on an unfinished Akira Kurosawa script and even Nintendo have hinted at the possibility of creating original animated movies.
