In an interview with German financial magazine WirtschaftsWoche Microsoft chairman Bill Gates has admitted that he is still interested in buying Nintendo and that “if Hiroshi Yamauchi phones me, I will pick up at once." His comments appear to be entirely wishful thinking though, since Yamauchi – the largest shareholder in the company, but no longer president – was the primary obstacle to Microsoft’s attempts to acquire the company before the launch of the Xbox and still has a strong influence on the Japanese company he originally moved into the video games business.
