Red Herring magazine, a weekly publication covering technology-based financial news, has named Australian game development and middleware firm BigWorld as one of its 100 Private Companies of Asia. BigWorld is the creator of the BigWorld Technology Suite, an integrated set of tools, software and systems that provides all of the underlying technology and content development tools required to produce an MMOG. The company has licensed their technology for use in more than 43 different upcoming games, often Asian-developed MMOs, including Shen Mue Online, Citizen Zero, and a number of other unannounced titles. The Red Herring Asia 100 list was compiled out of 500 prospective companies, judged on a basis of both objective and subjective criteria such as financial data and quality of management. "Getting selected for the Red Herring Asia 100 list is quite an achievement," said magazine editor-in-chief Joel Dreyfuss. "We had many strong entries, a reflection of the depth of entrepreneurship that has taken hold in Asia." As one of the Asia 100, BigWorld will present its business model at the Red Herring Asia 100 Conference, which will be held from September 5-7th at the Shangri-La Hotel in Shanghai. "We are very pleased that BigWorld has been recognized in this way," said BigWorld CEO John De Margheriti. "Our focus on long-term research and development has paved the way to our current and future success in the fast-growing online game marketplace."
