Montreal based audio solution provider Audiokinetic has announced that the company has secured over 5 million Canadian dollars (roughly $5 million USD) in investments led by Business Development Bank of Canada and Investissement Québec which it will use to further develop its award winning Wwise audio pipeline tool. The latest investment, says the company, brings the yearly total of financing to $11 million, which it says will allow the company to "continue its sustained growth, especially by dramatically developing the company’s commercial activities." Wwise was created by sound experts, and features an optimized sound engine for managing audio processing along with a non-destructive authoring tool for creating audio set structures, managing sound integration, defining both audio propagation and audio behaviors, and creating sound banks. With Wwise, game developers have the flexibility, toolsets and workflow to enhance even the most sophisticated game content. In January, the company announced that Zoo Tycoon developer Blue Fang had entered into a long term licensing agreement with Audiokinetic to use Wwise in unannounced future titles. It also saw its first commercial use in Microsoft/FASA's Shadowrun, and, most recently, announced a new licensing scheme for downloadable titles for XBLA, PSN, and WiiWare. Said president and CEO Martin Klein, “Most of the investors who took part in this financing campaign have been investing in Audiokinetic for a long time. We sincerely appreciate this token of trust that will allow us to affirm our position in the industry and to increase our market share.”
