"Sensory surround" technology maker AmBX is starting a developer program early next year with the launch of a software development kit that goes live on January 2009. AmBX says the SDK is aimed at providing developers with test tools and sample apps to teach them how to add hardware-enabled light, sound, air and rumble effects to their titles. The company's also launching a support forum for advice and best practices. The SDK has been available prior to now on a project-by-project basis, AmBX says, but as part of the new developer program, it'll be offered to the dev community free of charge. "The amBX SDK provides developers with everything they need to get quickly up to speed and at no charge," says AmBX CEO Neil MacDonald. "It makes amBX very approachable and this will be a major step forward for us as we take the amBX proposition to wider markets and sectors." "The whole point of amBX is to immerse the player deeper into the game and the amBX SDK now makes a rather complex operation very simple and extremely low cost."
