Officials from Phantom Entertainment have announced that Alienware has ordered the Phantom Wireless Lapboard and Phantom Wireless Laser Mouse for their Media Center gaming PCs and PC gear product line. The dual products supplied by the company formerly known as Infinium Labs, which are targeted at least partially at gamers, are a combination wireless keyboard, laser mouse and hard surface for PCs that were first announced by the company at the end of 2005. The hardware combination is designed to allow full control of the keyboard and mouse without the need to be sitting at a desk. The Lapboard includes wireless technology, ergonomic design, one-touch features, and a wireless high definition 1200 dpi laser mouse. In addition, the device also rotates for left and right handed users and inclines on a 22 degree angle with a hard surface support for the Phantom mouse. Other features include an interchangeable key-face that is designed for game-specific and business software applications on PC and Mac platforms. While this latest news would seem to lend a degree of validity to Phantom Entertainment's hardware pursuits, the fate of the company's software based Phantom game Service remains unclear, despite a $5 million funding commitment for the company in January 2006. In its original form, the Phantom was a customized games-specific PC console designed to use a direct download content delivery service instead of removable media. However, in August the company revised the state of this particular project, announcing via its website that the Phantom was instead to be a software only games on-demand service. Regarding this new Lapboard announcement, Frank Azor, senior vice president and general manager for Alienware Worldwide Product Group, commented: "Alienware's Media Center PCs dramatically enhance every aspect of the multimedia experience by improving ease of use, expanding users' range of capabilities, and advancing multimedia technology to extraordinary new heights. Implementing the Phantom Wireless Lapboard as part of our Media Center solutions is an important extension of these key features, providing users with a convenient, flexible way to both work and have fun without being tied to a desk."
