At Siggraph today, the recently re-christened Alias Systems (formerly Alias|Wavefront), announced the release of version 5 of its Maya Personal Learning Edition 3D modeling and animation package for Windows and Mac OS X, based on the more robust, professional-grade Maya 5. The Personal Learning Edition includes many of the commercial version of Maya’s features, including new hardware rendering options; unified rendering workflow; animation enhancements to constraints, forward/inverse kinematics, and ghosting; Maya Paint Effects to polygon conversion; and an improved polygon reduction method suited to lightweight game models and MOD-making. Maya Personal Learning Edition 5 is initially available as part of the Learning Maya Beginner’s Guide for $19.99 from the Alias online store at www.alias.com. A no-charge download of Maya Personal Learning Edition 5 will become available this fall.
