3D Pipeline just released TreeFX, the latest addition to their line of SmartFX 3D tools. TreeFX is a real-time engine bundled with a realistic library of trees, foliage and ground cover for use in any 3D environment, including vis-sim and games. 3D Pipeline is designed to aid game developers in making a realistic outdoor real-time simulation that truly represents accurate and efficient trees, brush, grass and leaves. TreeFX combines detailed fully 3-dimensional branches, leaves and grass with simple geometry. The results show lifelike trees with branches that appear to brush aside as you pass by. TreeFX also computes ground shadows, grass, and strewn leaves, and can be adjusted for various seasons, with the capability to place hundreds of trees and bushes in either a virtual forest, or to enhance an urban setting. The application allows for many different types of trees, from deciduous oaks and willows to conifer pines or spruces. It also offers tropical variations such as ferns, bamboo and palms, and even cacti, Asian style trees and various bushes. A downloadable demo application is available at the 3D Pipeline website that requires the Nvidia GeForce 2 Ultra graphics card.
