Controversial game developer Running With Scissors has announced Postal III, which is currently in development for the Xbox 360 and PC for release in 2008, and will utilize Valve's popular Source engine. Aimed at depicting “a new and advanced technical level of social satire and politically incorrect virtual violence,” the third iteration in the Postal series, being produced in association with Russian firm Akella, will also include motion-captured performances from film personalities and Playboy Playmates. In addition, the game will stay in line with previous titles by once again casting the player in the role of the nameless "Postal Dude," the central character in long running series. Earlier this week, Valve released its Source engine as official middleware for Xbox 360 development. According to a statement released at that time, the new version of Source for the Xbox 360 is optimized to utilize the platform's graphics hardware and offer full support for Xbox Live. However, while Postal III marks the first appearance of the series on a home console, Running With Scissors has not revealed what Xbox 360 specific features will be included with the game when it ships. "We started this series back in 1997," commented Running With Scissors' CEO Vince Desi, "and while the franchise has grown into an international computer game sensation during that time, it has always been our goal to bring it to the video game console marketplace. For many years I’ve been asked by gamers around the world when Postal will appear on console. I’m so proud to be able to answer our fans' prayers." Desi added: "We've always maintained since publishing the original Postal that the game is only as violent as the player wants it to be and we're committed to expanding this unique form of gameplay in this next addition to the ongoing storyline."
