The opening of the associated movie has propelled Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End to the top of the UK sales chart, resulting in the first British number one for Disney Interactive Studios. Sales increased by 83 percent following the film’s debut, making it the third movie tie-in to reach the number one spot in the UK in the last eight weeks, after Spider-Man 3 and TMNT. The release of Tomb Raider: Anniversary at number two was enough to push Activision’s Spider-Man 3 into third place, after four consecutive weeks at number one. Released only on PlayStation 2 and PC so far, the game was able to beat out Pirates of the Caribbean in the PlayStation 2 only chart, becoming the third Tomb Raider to top the PlayStation 2 format exclusive chart after Legend and Angel of Darkness. With Mario Strikers Charged Football for the Wii falling only one space to number four, Nintendo continues to enjoy the greatest number of format exclusive titles in the top ten, with three first party titles including Brain Training. The latter celebrates a full year of release this week, most of which has been spent in the top twenty. Outside of the top ten the highest new entry was Microsoft’s Shadowrun for Xbox 360 and PC at number eleven. This was followed by THQ’s Nickelodeon themed crossover game SpongeBob and Friends: Battle for Volcano Island at number fourteen. The budget price re-release Pirates of the Caribbean: The Legend of Jack Sparrow, originally released for the second movie, re-enters the chart at number twenty-three, with Tomb Raider: Legend similarly benefiting from the release of its follow-up at number thirty-four.
