LucasArts and Lucasfilm have confirmed a major cross-marketing compaign based around the DVD release of the original untouched trilogy of films, including some significant support for Lego Star Wars II, which will be released day and date with the DVDs. On September 12, LucasArts will release Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy, the sequel to the original Lego Star Wars released in early 2005 for multiple platforms. The game is being developed by UK-based TT Games, formerly known as Traveller's Tales, which developed the original game for home consoles and the PC. Lego Star Wars II will be released current-generation consoles and handhelds as well as the Xbox 360. The game will feature all of the characters and story that fans of the original trilogy remember. In addition, Lego Star Wars II will feature the ability for players to build and ride in their own Star Wars vehicles, then get on and off of them to explore the interactive galaxy created out of the popular toy building blocks. The game also will permit players to customize their characters, mixing and matching bits between characters of bizarre combinations such as “Yodarth” or “See-Chewpio”. In addition, day and date with the game's release Lucasfilm Ltd. and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment will release individual two-disc DVD sets of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, Episode V The Empire Strikes Back, and Episode VI Return of the Jedi. In addition, each disc will come paired with its original, untouched version as seen in theaters in 1977, 1980 and 1983, respectively, along with commentary by George Lucas and key cast and crew members.
