The Visual Effects Society has released the winners of its 5th annual VES Awards, giving Electronic Arts' boxing sim Fight Night Round 3 its top award for real time visuals. Held Sunday night at the Kodak Grand Ballroom, the VES awards ceremony brought in a crowd of over eight hundred "celebrities, visual effects and animation artists, dozens of nominees and members of the film, television and games industries." Amongst the nominees announced in early January were the trailer for Ubisoft's upcoming Assassin's Creed shown during Microsoft's X06 event, as well as the PlayStation 3 version of Electronic Arts' Fight Night Round 3, both of which were nominated for Outstanding Real Time Visuals in a Video Game. In addition, Assassin's Creed's E3 trailer was nominated for Outstanding Pre-Rendered Visuals in a Video Game, alongside the E3 trailer for Hellgate: London and a CG sequence from Warhammer Fantasy. Christopher Sjoholm, Kat Kelly Hayduk, Rob Hilson, and Celia Jepson received the award for their work on Fight Night Round 3 in the Outstanding Real Time Visuals in a Video Game. At the time of press, no winner in the Outstanding Pre-Rendered Visuals in a Video Game was declared; Gamasutra will follow up with the winner should it be later announced.
