Officials from Sony Online Entertainment have signed a new deal with Gamania, one of the largest operators of online games in Asia. The deal is to facilitate the launch of EverQuest II in the territory, with the companies establishing a join venture to launch and operate the game in markets including China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and South Korea. The new venture will not just translate existing content but also “culturalise” the game for the Asian markets, in a project dubbed EQeast. The EQeast project will likely see the redesign of character models, translations and re-recording of voiceovers, adjustment to controls and user interface and a number of other changes designed to make the title more palatable to the Asian markets.
