Watch an engineer tear down this Nintendo PlayStation prototype

Video game history buffs will recall that last year a piece of old game hardware, believed to be a prototype of the never-released "Nintendo PlayStation" CD drive add-on for the Super Nintendo, was dug out of an attic in Philadelphia.

Now, console modder Ben Heck has published a video teardown of the hardware, provided by owners Dan and Terry Diebold, that's well worth watching.

The Diebolds share the story of where the prototype came from, referencing its origins as the product of a failed collaboration between Nintendo and Sony in the early '90s.

Heck then takes apart the (currently non-fuctioning) prototype and analyzes how it was meant to work and why, before promising to try and repair it in a future episode which will presumably be posted to his YouTube channel.
