Targeting mobile and casual gaming communities, design software company Autodesk has announced a
free, sponsored webcast on Wednesday, December 5th with the CEO of Subatomic Studios, creator of the IGF award-winning
Fieldrunners franchise, to discuss how 3D tools assisted in creating the 2D series.
Next week's webcast will cover why the studio chose to build a 2D game creation pipeline around 3D technology and how this can help other game designers.
The session will include Subatomic CEO Jamie Gotch alongside Autodesk's Wesley Adams, and will be moderated by Gamasutra features director Christian Nutt.
In their discussion, Subatomic's Gotch will illustrate the artistic assets workflow including their in-house 3D engine, a pipeline using Autodesk's 3ds Max, and a set of custom tools created to automate the iteration and integration of artistic assets into the graphically slick 'tower defense' style game.
Fieldrunners was a multi-million selling hit that released first on iOS in 2008, followed by the Google Chrome Web Store, Nintendo DSi, PlayStation Minis, Android, Steam, and more. The series spawned a critically acclaimed sequel in 2012, and Gotch will share his perspective on how this series succeeded in such a dynamic market.
The 60-minute webcast will be held live online at 11:00AM PT on Wednesday, December 5th. Interested parties can register now via the session's official
sign-up page.
