A brief blog asking for help from game designers to look into what project management skills are required to take an innovative project such as games design from concept to post-production.

Hello, my name is Ryan Fleming; I’m currently studying in my final year of university at Edinburgh Napier. Part of my final year requires me to conduct an honours project, which is, based on games design and the variation of project management skills that are required to take a dynamic, innovative project such as games design from the concept to post production stages.

Part of my research requires me to conduct interviews with individuals associated with games design to see what their experiences are with games projects, the approaches they took / were directed to take and their general feeling on project management within games design. Through these interviews I hope to draw out some assumptions as to whether set 'hard' project management techniques work more effectively than 'soft' techniques. This will include, what techniques work best, why (if any), the best approaches to take, or whether a mix of 'hard' and 'soft' management techniques are the best.

Also if independant designers feel they'd like to partake in any interview then please dont hesistate, I want to gain a broad understanding of what is required to take ambiguous projects such as game design from concept to post production no matter how small or basic they may be.

If anyone feels they'd be willing to offer some insight into the methods / approaches there company or themselves (if your an independant designer) take on during games design then I'd greatly appreciate their help. If you have worked or are working in the games sector within Scotland then I cannot stress how much help you would be as that is my main area of focus for my project.

Anyway interviews can be conducted over skype, email, face to face (if your in scotland of course) and shouldnt last any longer than 40 minutes. For more information please dont hesistate to email me at [email protected] or a reply to this blog would be excellent.
