Shot summary of progress on my spare time project. New controls, new features and some game play video. Using Unity3d C# and photoshop.

So I finally had some time to work on NPFR again.

First thing I did was to change the game play, from a “plat former” with arrow and jump controls, to a “one button game” only jump.

But why?

Well I want this game to be really simple, and I want it to be released on as many platforms as possible.

One button games are great time wasters as browser games as well as smart phone games. And I think the whole idea about only tab or hold as interaction is really exciting. It challenges your creativity about intractable environment.

I also got my walljump to work better and set a fallspeed, so you won’t fall faster and faster if you slide down a really long wall.

I added a cake to the story, so the mission is get the cake!!

The Traps/Enemies:

There are still just the one trap, the spike, but I changed it to a saw.

More traps will be added soon.

Lasers, plasma pits.

World:

I’ve decided to do multiple worlds. 4 worlds that is.

The 4 worlds (not suited for robots)

1 Factory

2 Outside in the woods

3 Underground Rocket base

4 Rocket going into space

Each world will have 2 chapters with 10-15 levels.

When you enter a chapter you have accesses to all levels in that chapter.

To unlock a new chapter get enough coins.

The Intractable environment:

Coinbox: I’ve made super Mario style coinbox, I can put as many coins in it as I want, and it will be activated by touch. Jump, hit or drive over.

Treadmill: when you run over a treadmill that points opposite direction, that you are going, you turn around. Same direction it adds 10 to speed for 2 sec.

More is coming up…

Some loose ideas.

Rocket jump. Disappearing floor, portals, destructible planks.

Still missing:

Proper GUI, menu, level select.

Here are some video clips from the game so far.
