Game industry veteran and animal enthusiast Jeff Minter is now experimenting with VR game design, and he's published his first VR game demo on the Oculus VR Developer Center forum. He appears to have attempted to port the 2011 iOS game Minotaur Rescue, developed by Minter and his partner Ivan Zorzin, to the Oculus Rift developer kit as a way of figuring out best practices for playing arcade games on a VR headset. "In thinking about how you might present an arcade game in VR, I postulated that instead of objects moving on a flat screen the user might see objects moving on a sphere that surrounded him, as if he were entirely enclosed within a spherical screen," wrote Minter. The field of VR game design is still young, and we're likely to see much more experimentation like this going forward. You can download a demo of Minotaur Rescue VR (which is playable with our without a VR headset) from Minter's Minotaur Project website.
