Crankin's Time Travel Adventure, a dating game for Playdate about a perpetually late paramour with a masochistic streak and the ability to tamper with time, is decidedly left field.

Naturally, we'd expect nothing less from Uvula, the studio co-founded by Katamari Damacy and Wattam creator Keita Takahashi. As part of our ongoing Playdate Week, we sat down with Takahaki and his collaborators to learn more about how Crankin came to be. You can find that wide-ranging interview here.

During our chat, Takahashi brought out the original design document for Crankin, which he pulled together all the way back in October 2015 -- when the Playdate was simply a twinkle in the eye of creator, Panic.

As you'd expect, the design doc -- officially titled "Crankin's Time Travel Adventure very basic gameplay document" -- provides a fascinating glimpse into Takahashi's creative process. Although Crankin is only officially launching this year, the game was finished in around three months and largely resembles the original vision laid out by Takahashi.

There are some changes, of course. The lethal weapons -- "in this case, Knife!!!!!!!" -- Takahashi hoped to fling at players were swapped out for more family friendly foes (birds and butterflies), and there are also hints at a trilogy that might yet be realized. But rather than me spend the next few minutes breaking down the doc in minute detail, why don't you just check it out for yourself?

Although I'm sure you don't need telling, the complete document contains a bunch of spoilers for Crankin, so if you've ordered a Playdate and want to experience every Season One title with fresh eyes, we advise you to turn back now.

If, though, you're simply interested to learn how one of the industry's most eclectic creators kickstarts production, go ahead and feast your eyes.
