GCG’s Game Design Challenge Results: Hamlet

In a recent challenge, readers over at Gamasutra sister site GameCareerGuide.com were tasked with a unique challenge - designing a game based on Shakespeare’s Hamlet. The community came up with dozens of solutions, all inventive and educational. But some entries in particular stood out and have been highlighted on the site. The primary limitation was that if in-game characters spoke, they had to say words directly from the text. The three featured winners of this particular game design challenge are Tamar Goldberg, high school student Sharon Hoosein, and Devin Monnens of University of Denver. One is a puzzle mystery game; the next uses Horatio as the player and is filled with action challenges inspired by various events in the play; and the third uses the Nintendo Wii and features fencing. To read the complete submissions, which shows how the new generation of game designers is thinking through tough design problems, and to read more about what this group has been up to, visit GameCareerGuide.com.
