Michael Gallagher, president and CEO of the Entertainment Software Association, publicly admonished venture capitalist Gilman Louie for remarks Louie made about the state of the game industry during his DICE 2014 talk "Disrupting Gaming."
Louie, perhaps best known in the game industry for his work licensing
Tetris from its creators in the Soviet Union, exhorted attendees to improve the public image of the game industry by, among other things, establishing an organization to advance the interests of the industry as a whole.
"One [DICE] speech from an admittedly accomplished industry pioneer was so off-base and filled with misinformation that it requires an immediate response," wrote Gallagher in a published
response that includes -- among other things -- a list of eight objectives, set by Louie, that Gallagher argues the ESA is already achieving.
Gallagher responds to Louie's call for the industry to offer gaming scholarships, for example, by highlighting the charity work of big industry players like Activision Blizzard and pointing out that the ESA has been offering
gaming scholarships for years.
