This week on "Best Of Indie Games," we take a look at some of the top independent PC Flash/downloadable titles released over this last week. The goodies in this edition include a simplistic-looking SHMUP from Jonas Kyratzes, an autoscrolling platformer based on The Hunger Games film and novel series, a pair of Indie Royale highlights, and a browser pick that pits gaming portals against each other. Here's some recent highlights from IndieGames.com: Game Pick: 'Traitor' (Jonas Kyratzes, freeware) "Described as a 'casual game', Traitor is a simplistic-looking SHMUP that fans of the Kyratzes will mostly certainly enjoy. Though it doesn't deviate very much at all from the expected formula, Traitor has somehow succeeded in making itself something special." Game Pick: 'Hunger Games: Girl on Fire' (Lions Gate Films, commercial indie) "A predecessor to The Hunger Games film and novel series, Girl on Fire challenges players to shoot down Tracker Jackers and dodge enemy fire as lead character Katniss races back to her home, District 12." Game Pick: 'Mutant Storm: Reloaded' (PomPom Games, commercial indie) "Originally released as part of Xbox Live Arcade's relaunch in 2005, Mutant Storm: Reloaded offers 89 levels filled with highly blastable mutants. Two gameplay modes -- Adventure and Tally -- are included, and the game features seven difficulty levels, online leaderboards, and a collection of Steam achievements." Game Pick: 'Cloning Clyde' (NinjaBee, commercial indie) "Cloning Clyde is a great platformer with some decent puzzle elements and genuinely amusing writing. You take on the role of Clyde, an individual with a strong desire for twenty bucks and no common sense to keep him away from it." Game Pick: 'Outpost Kaloki' (NinjaBee, commercial indie) "Outpost Kaloki, better known by the enhanced edition released on the Xbox 360 called Outpost Kaloki X, quite literally revolves around a space station and the people who keep it running." Game Pick: 'War of the Web' (Jiggmin, browser) "Gaming portals are at war with each other thanks to Jiggmin's latest title, War of the Web. Every player gets 9 turns per minute to attack, spy, research, or produce coin in an effort to claim Mars for their favorite gaming portal." Game Pick: 'My Cat Vs Zombies' (Pencel Games, commercial indie) "My Cat Vs Zombies presents a bleak future in which humankind has been decimated by a zombie virus, and cats (being unaffected by the disease) have created an underground civilization. Unfortunately, in the years since the outbreak, zombies have developed a taste for cats." Game Pick: 'Manor of the Damned' (The Hideout, commercial indie) "The Hideout's Rijn the Specpyre in... Manor of the Damned is an action RPG, featuring a wandering vampyre who agrees to help rid a village of a raiding specpyre family."
