Officials from French publisher and developer Ubisoft have apologized for the accidental charging of supposedly free downloadable content for Xbox 360 title
Rainbow Six: Vegas, with Microsoft confirming that refunds will be issued and offering additional free content.
The
Black Pack downloadable content, including five new multiplayer maps, was briefly made available on Xbox Live Marketplace last week priced at 800 Microsoft Points ($10), but Ubisoft has now admitted that the content was intended to be free.
The company has now issued a statement to various Xbox Live blogs,
including the popular Major Nelson site run by Xbox director of programming Larry Hryb. The statement reads: “We apologize for the error. All players who purchased the
Black Pack will be reimbursed automatically. The
Black Pack will be posted Saturday June 30th and will be free of charge.”
“Also, as a token of our appreciation for the
Rainbow Six community, we are making the
Red Pack free as of Friday July 6th as well. Thanks for playing and we hope you enjoy this free content.”
The
Red Pack contains not only new maps but also two new multiplayer game modes. The pack was originally priced at 800 Microsoft Points on its initial release. According to Hryb, users who mistakenly paid for the
Black Pack will be reimbursed automatically within eight to ten weeks.
