Pokemon Platinum for Nintendo DS is still the best-selling game in Japan this week, selling 315,000 units -- in total, almost 1.3 million in just nine days. A director’s cut of the earlier
Pokemon Diamond and
Pearl, the game has been relatively untroubled by the rest of the week’s new releases.
The highest new entry, at number two, is Namco Bandai’s
Dragon Ball DS (aka
Dragon Ball: Origins), on 72,000 unit sales. The Nintendo DS game is a top-down adventure title similar in style to
The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass.
The second-highest new entry is the PlayStation 3 version of what is known in the West as Eternal Sonata. However, with just 34,000 unit sales, the game seems to have suffered from releasing after the Xbox 360 version.
Also new at number seven, on 25,000 unit sales, is PSP anime tie-in
Katekyo Hitman Reborn! Battle Arena from Marvelous, while the new PSP version of Spike’s
Way of the Samurai debuts at number eight on 17,000 unit sales.
The only other two new entries in the top 30 are both visual novels for the PlayStation 2, as Idea Factory’s
Hokuouki enters the charts at number 11 and Prototype’s
Heart no Kuni no Alice debuts at number 16.
