Japanese robot anime and cultural phenomenon Gundam is once again at the top of the weekly software sales charts, with the latest game being the new PlayStation 2 version of what is known in the West as
Dynasty Warriors: Gundam.
Originally released last year only on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, the game - which sold 150,000 units during the week - is a co-production with Koei, successfully mixing two of Japan’s favourite franchises. It is also the second
Musou game in the charts, with the PSP version of
Warriors Orochi still at number seven.
The second highest new entry of the week is role-playing game
Soma Bringer, the first title to be released by developer Monolith Soft since being acquired by Nintendo. The new franchise enjoyable a moderate debut with 51,000 units sold at number four.
New at number five, with 44,000 units sold, is the second
The Idolm@ster game for the Xbox 360, a pop idol themed game whose Xbox Live features have proven particularly popular in Japan.
The rest of the chart is largely unchanged from the previous week, with
Super Smash Bros. Brawl and
Wii Fit both still selling in excess of 60,000 units weeks after their initial release.
