Harmonix announced that users downloaded over 28 million songs from its
Rock Band in-game store and XBLA/PSN stores since the first
Rock Band game released in November 2007.
In an email newsletter sent to Rockband.com members, the studio also revealed that it has released a total of 345 downloadable tracks from 239 different artists since the first game's debut.
Adding the number of downloadable songs to the 160 disc tracks on
Rock Band, Rock Band 2, and
Rock Band AC/DC Track Pack, Harmonix says it has met its goal of having 500 songs available by year end, a target declared by CEO Alex Rigopulos at this year's E3 Media and Business Summit.
The company launched its
Rock Band store with its first patch for the music game in March of this year. At that time, users had so far downloaded six million tracks through the PlayStation Store and Xbox Live Marketplace. By May,
Rock Band saw its song downloads shoot up to 10 million.
With the milestone, Harmonix noted that it has offered new downloadable content for 55 consecutive weeks, adding "We've got no plans to stop releasing DLC any time in the near future, so keep posted to see what 2009 will hold!"
